The local area

Enjoy Spartilas

Spartilas has a bakery, opening every morning for fresh bread, a mini market for essentials, two traditional bars where locals meet, and a snack bar/cafe. There is a lovely taverna on the outskirts of the village. Spartilas has remained unspoilt by tourism and has a charm of its own. The locals are friendly and welcoming.

Explore Corfu

With its Venetian influence, Corfu town is a fascinating place to visit, especially the old town, filled with tiny alleyways and artisan shops spilling onto the cobbles. The famous Liston is most atmospheric in the cool of the evening, where you can shop for leather goods, local crafts, and jewellery or enjoy a coffee and soak up the culture. There are beautiful churches, often hidden away, and interesting museums and ruins to visit.

Not to be missed

There is an abundance of eating places to discover along the coastline or further inland in the traditional villages, including several excellent tavernas within 10 minutes drive of the villa. For a special evening, take a free boat taxi from Kalami bay and experience the delights of the coastline at night, arriving at any one of the famous and ever popular tavernas of Agni bay. Alternatively, book a boat trip to Corfu town for the evening and soak up the Greek culture with a walk along the Liston followed by a meal. For those who prefer to cook and dine at the villa, we have provided an extensive range of cookware and utensils. There are many large supermarkets along the main coastal road and excellent butchers near Ipsos. There is a very good fish market held daily in Corfu town near the old fort.

Find the perfect beach

Corfu is blessed with many beautiful bays with crystal clear waters and safe swimming. The lovely white pebble beach of Barbati is just 6km away. From here, as with several of the north east beaches, you can hire a small boat or enjoy a range of water sports. Driving north from Barbati, there are pretty coves with lovely beaches to explore, some that are only accessible by boat, offering greater seclusion.

If sandy beaches are preferred, these are along the north or west coast 30 mins away.

Something for everyone

Villa Petalutha is ideally situated for walking enthusiasts and the slightly cooler temperatures of Spring or Autumn are perfect for this. Lovers of flora and fauna will appreciate the variety of natural life documented in Gerald Durrell’s famous novel ‘My family and other animals’. Artists would love the fantastic Corfu light and the constantly changing landscape.

We made the most of the BBQ almost every night. We found the figs, mint and oregano from the garden a lovely treat. The outdoor dining and seating areas are brilliantly designed.
