Oasis Taverna in the traditional mountain village of Strinilas is one of our highly recommended tavernas in Corfu.
Location
Turn inland from the North east coastal road and your route climbs steadily upwards towards Mount Pantokrator. It meanders through the traditional village of Spartilas and then on towards the mountain village of Strinilas. Here in the picturesque village square sits the lovely Oasis Taverna, a hidden gem! Temperatures are a few degrees lower than the coastal resorts and there is often a cool breeze. An enormous 200 year old elm tree provides welcome shade over the taverna’s outdoor terrace and during the evening is the focal point for attractive lighting.
This family-owned taverna is run by Spiros and Isabel who are attentive hosts. Their welcoming hospitality and good service, accompanied by excellent home cooked food, ensures a memorable meal.
Opening Hours
During the day Oasis taverna is popular with hikers and cyclists en route to the monastery at the top of Mount Pantokrator. The taverna opens at 10.00 in the morning for those needing an all important refreshment stop. Enjoy coffee and a delicious slice of home- made walnut cake whilst relaxing in the shade of the elm tree. It is the perfect spot for observing greek village life.
Menu
The kitchen opens for more substantial meals at 12.00 midday and closes at 22.00 hrs. On the menu there is a good selection of small plates( starters) such as feta cooked in the oven, grilled vegetables, or aubergine saganaki. Main courses include traditional Corfiot dishes of Sofrito ( beef or veal cooked in a white garlic sauce), Moussaka (minced beef or lamb layer with aubergine and potato and topped with béchamel sauce) or pastitsada (slow cooked beef in rich tomato sauce served with pasta). In addition, there is also a good section of grilled meats and salads. Delicious local wine is an excellent accompaniment. Oasis also offers a takeaway service which is very useful for our guests at Villa Petalutha!
Saturday Nights
During the main season, customers at Oasis on a Saturday night are treated to live music and sometimes dancing. Reservations are therefore recommended to ensure you get a table! In the cooler months the taverna benefits from a lovely indoor dining room featuring open stone walls, traditional decoration and a welcoming log fire. This combined with wonderful food means It is very popular with locals as well as tourists.
Recommendation
This lovely taverna is well worth the drive up into the mountains. The rewards are stunning scenery and views along the route and a memorable greek dining experience once there.
